However, if one does not follow a program while using these aids, they have a 95% chance of going back to smoking after the first year. So which stop smoking aids work the best? Actually, a combination seems to work the best. A French study decided to test a nicotine inhaler against using both a nicotine inhaler and a patch. After monitoring their test subjects for six weeks, they found that only 47.5% quit who use the inhaler. However, 60.5% who used a combination of both had quit. After 12 weeks, 9% more of those who used a combination had quit than those that hadn't. Then, after 12 months, it was found that 5.5% more who used a combination still hadn't smoked compared to those who just use the inhaler. The results of the study tend to suggest that you can increase your chances of quitting smoking by 5.5% simply by using a combination of an inhaler and a patch instead of just an inhaler.
