Quit Smoking Hypnosis - Does It Work?

Want to quit smoking? Hypnosis is an avenue pursued by many when they try to give up their deadly habit. But does "quit smoking" hypnosis really work? It depends. In this article, I will give you some reasons why it does and doesn't work.

Almost all of our physical limits are a result of our limiting mental beliefs. For example, nobody could break the four minute mile. They thought it just wasn't possible. Some reason that you would die if you tried.

Then Roger Bannister broke it.

Soon afterwards, it it became commonplace to run a mile in under four minutes. In fact, over 20 people that year did it after Bannister did it. Once they believed that it was possible, then it was.

Most people can't quit simply because they have a belief in their head that it is impossible or too hard to accomplish. What hypnosis does is change those beliefs. Just like hypnosis can trick you into thinking that you can't lift a tiny object like a pen, it can also expand your beliefs so that you can easily quit smoking.

For the hypnotist to do this, they have to establish excellent rapport with you. Quit smoking hypnosis only works if this can be accomplished. Otherwise, it will be hard for them to expand your beliefs, because subconsciously you won't trust them.

The skill of the hypnotist plays a part in rapport building. However, it's a two-way street. The person who wants to quit smoking has to do their part. If you go into it thinking that it just won't work, you've already created a barrier that rapport just won't break through.

Just like you can't be hypnotized to commit murder or rob a bank, if you're not at least open to the suggestion of quitting smoking, then the quit smoking process will fail, no matter how skilled the hypnotist is. In the end, it is you who makes a change, not some psychiatrist. They can only help you expand your beliefs. Then it is up to you.

That is why quit smoking hypnosis is so hit or miss. Some psychiatrist just have subpar rapport skills. Other times, the patient just doesn't want a change. A psychiatrist with minimal rapport skills who meets with the patient who really wants to change will have success. And a psychiatrist with excellent rapport skills who meet someone who only has an inkling to change will have success.
